Recall
- Number Involved: 895,000
- Dates of Manufacture: May 1996 - March 1999
- [NHTSA Recall No. 99V062/Ford Recall No. 99S09]
- Defect: Certain 1999 F250/F350/F450/F550 (over 8,500 lbs.) trucks equipped with 5.4-liter or 6.8-liter engines and speed control built from March 2, 1998 through March 4, 1999. The speed control cable can interfere with the speed control servo pulley and not allow the throttle to return to idle when disengaging the speed control. If the speed control is used and this condition is present, a stuck throttle could result, increasing the potential for a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the speed control cable. Owners will receive two notices: the first notice was to begin during March 1999; and the second notice will be made when parts are available (anticipated late April, early May). Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673
- Number Involved: 17,000
- Dates of Manufacture: January 1998 - August 1999
- [NHTSA Recall No. 99V265/Ford Recall No. 99S27]
- Defect: On certain trucks and chassis-cabs equipped with 5.4 liter manual transmission power trains, the accelerator cable core wire can wear the cable conduit end fitting. This could also lead to wear or separation of strands of the core wire, which could prevent the throttle from returning to the idle position. A "stuck" throttle could adversely affect vehicle control.
