2008 Ford Focus Overview
The 2008 Ford Focus is offered in two-door coupe and four-door sedan body styles, each with the choice of three trim levels: S, SE, and SES. The lone engine is a 140-hp four-cylinder. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard; a four-speed automatic is optional ($815). The S coupe ($14,075) and sedan ($14,375) come with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, AM/FM /CD/MP3 player with four speakers and auxiliary input jack, 60/40 split folding rear seat, tilt steering wheel, a tire inflation kit, antitheft system and P195/60R15 all-season tires on steel wheels with hubcaps.
2008 Ford Focus Review Summary The 2009 Ford Focus, ranked 6.7 by ACG, offers consumers a relatively cheap and fuel-efficient option in in the affordable small cars class, but in no other way is it inspiring automobile scribes. For 2009, Ford has made some adjustments to the Focus’ trim levels. The sedan now comes in four trim levels (the S, SE, SES and SEL) but the coupe is only available in two. Heated leather seats are now standard on the top-of-the-line SEL sedan but optional on the SES for both the sedan and the coupe. Also, stability control has been added to the options list for this year as well. The Focus only comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 140 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque, but a cleaner version of that engine that creates 132 horsepower and 133 pound-feet of torque is available. After test driving the Focus, reviewers felt that its performance and handling was decent. The Focus is stable on the highway and sufficiently powerful for most small car drivers, but the car seems to have little personality and doesn’t provide an exciting ride by any stretch of the imagination. It’s also worth noting that most reviewers preferred the manual transmission to the automatic because they felt it allowed for a ride that was a little more sporty and fun. The Focus’ exterior has drawn a considerable amount of criticism from reviewers. At best, the design has been called nerdy. At worst, it has been labeled plain and downright ugly. The interior provides some nice cabin features, in particular the optional SYNC voice technology pleased reviewers. Once again, however, the cabin’s design is lacking in terms of design and the materials are not of the best quality. The Focus’ seating also frustrated reviewers as they found the rear seating to be extremely uncomfortable and lacking in leg and headroom. To end with on a positive note, the Focus does provide for ample cargo space. Reviewers found the sedan’s 13.8 cubic-feet of available trunk volume to be more than sufficient
2008 Ford Focus Review Handling According to Reviewers, the Focus’ handling is adequate and certainly improved from earlier models. Buyers shouldn’t expect an exciting or sporty ride (especially with the automatic transmission), but the Focus meets the needs of small car drivers when it comes to performance.
2008 Ford Focus Review Safety The Focus comes equipped with power front vented disc brakes and rear drum brakes, but Traction control and antilock brakes are optional as is stability control. All trims receive dual stage driver and front passenger airbags, front seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags for the first and second rows. The Focus did fairly well in government crash tests. It earned four out of a possible five stars for front impact crashes, five stars for the driver’s protection in a side impact crash, and four stars for the rear passengers’ protection in side crashes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Focus also earned a “Good” rating for frontal offset crashes from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
2008 Ford Focus Noteworthy The 2009 Ford Focus’ best feature is, undoubtedly, the SYNC In-Car Communications system. Ford developed SYNC in conjunction with Microsoft, and the state-of-the-art in-car hands-free cell phone and personal media player interface is remarkably functional and very affordable. The option is available at under $500.
The base Dodge Charger SE has a 178-hp 2.7-liter V6 and a four-speed automatic transmission. SXT comes with a 250-hp 3.5-liter V6 and a five-speed automatic transmission with Dodge's AutoStick manual shift gate. R/T models have a 340-hp 5.7-liter V8 and the five-speed AutoStick...
The 2008 Ford Expedition comes in two lengths, the standard model with a 119-inch wheelbase, and the Expedition EL with its 131-inch wheelbase. Every Expedition is powered by a single-overhead-cam 5.4-liter V-8 that is rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. A...
