2008 Audi A3 Review Summary There are no changes in 2008 to the Audio A3 and in 2007 it only had modest changes in terms of packaging with the introduction of the āSā line replacing the Sport package and a Technology package. Yet the front wheel drive Audi A3 competes very well in the small wagon segment and is ranked #1 by Allcarguides.com just edging out the Subaru Impreza for top honors. Its price and features allow it to go head on against the Mazda3 and Subaru WXR but it competes with the entry level luxury wagons such as Volvo V50 and Saab 9-3 SportCombi. It is sporty and handles well, is fun to drive, has nice interior materials and all features one comes to expect from an Audi. As Detriot News says, there are lots of things to love about the Audi A3. It comes in two trims, the 2.0T and 3.2 Quattro. At base rice near $25,000 the Audi 2.0T can be a relative bargain if you skip the options. The primary difference between the two trims is that the Quattro has all-wheel drive and comes standard with many of the options available in the 2.0T S and Premium package. Standard features in the Audi 3 2.0T include 17-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, one-touch power windows, a trip computer and a 10-speaker audio system. While the S Package provides a sport-tuned suspension, fog lights, sport seats with leather upholstery, aluminum interior trim, unique front and rear fascias and a roof spoiler. And the Premium Package adds a 12-way power driver seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers and HomeLink. The A3 2.0T has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower and 207 torque. It accelerates smoothly and quickly to 60 mph in just 7 seconds. The 2.0T's standard transmission is a six-speed manual but the S line significantly improves on an already graceful transmission.
The A3 3.2 Quattro had a 3.2-liter 250-hp V6 with standard S line transmission. The standard all-wheel drive provides improved control in wet conditions but is heavier so the increased power does not improve acceleration much beyond the Audi 2.0T.
The interior is well-crafted cabin with good quality and solid materials. Controls on the dashboard are relatively simple compared to more expensive Audis and is a point noted as positive by a number of reviewers.
2008 Audi A3 Review Handling The 2008 Audi A3 performs very well. It is quick, has adequate power to accelerate when passing. The electromechanical steering performs very well in curves and limits vibrations and kickback. Many reviewers including Motortrend, comment on the Direct Shift Gearbox transmission as particularly exceptional.
2008 Audi A3 Review Safety The Audi A3 comes with many standard safety features including front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, antilock brakes and stability control. Seat-mounted side airbags for rear passengers are optional. The 2008 Audi A3 rated very well in crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, earning a rating of "Good" (the highest possible) in both the frontal-offset and side-impact tests.
2008 Audi A3 Noteworthy Though common for small wagons, rear seating offers limited legroom and little storage space. The Detroit News called the Audi's cabin is fairly cramped.
The Toyota Tundra line isn't quite as complicated as some other full-size pickup line-ups, but it still offers plenty of potential for confusion. For 2008, there are 44 different Tundra configurations, with three cab styles seating from two to six, three bed lengths and three engine...
