2008 Cadillac CTS Review Summary The 2008 Cadillac CTS is considered to be competitive in the Upscale Midsize Cars class and is rated 4 in the class by Allcarguides.com. The 2008 Cadillac CTS has been fully redesigned with significant improvements to exterior style, interior components as well as suspension and engine and is rated the 5th best medium sized luxury sports sedan by Allcarguides.com. As noted by many reviewers, each of the top 5 cars in this class that is reviewed by Allcarguides.com is an excellent choice and you almost can not go wrong. Motrotrend, in particular was enamored with the 2008 Cadillac CTS and called it the Car of the Year. Though very reviewers had a bad thing to say about the CTS it seemed like Motortrend’s enthusiasm was an outlier. The Cadillac CTS is slightly larger than most of its competitors, it grew 1.5 inches in length and 2 inches in width from prior model, and the interior benefits with a very roomy feel when compared to cars in its class. The downside is that it is a bit less nimble and sense of sportiness is diminished. The base model offers 6-liter V6 generating 258 horsepower and 252 torque and the new 3.6-liter direct injection V6 produces 304 hp and 273 torque – More impressive in that it generates additional power with almost no reduction in fuel economy and neither does it drop when equipped with all wheel drive. The direct engine tested accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, braked from 60 mph to 0 in just 109 feet. Leaving few reviewers to doubt its sports sedan appeal. As an added bonus the Cadillac CTS takes regular gas not premium. There are three suspensions in both engine choices, with the mid level offering thicker stabilizer bars and firmer shocks while the high performance version offers stronger brakes, summer only tires and firmer shocks. The mid level offers less body roll than the base model and good enough for most drivers when compared to the sportier suspension. The 2008 Cadillac CTS base price is around $32,000 and Cadillac expects the average price to be closer to $38,000 which makes the CTS significantly less expensive the BMW 3 Series.
2008 Cadillac CTS Review Handling Most reviewers noted its very quick acceleration and braking. But a few thought it was slightly less nimble than smaller and lighter competitors. Forbes, CNET and theautochannel did note that the new models extra 2 inches along with speed sensitive rack and pinion steering improve performance.
2008 Cadillac CTS Review Safety CTS features the latest safety equipment, including antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, 6 airbags including front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and GM's OnStar emergency communications.
2008 Cadillac CTS Noteworthy Interior improvements are significant with a great deal of attention paid to the interior materials and construction and both interior and exterior design are described as edgy by Motortrend and supported by GM’s decisions to use Corvette Exhaust pipes in the new Cadillac CTS. As described by a few reviewers the interior is much more comfortable, stylish and less has plastic feel than prior model of the Cadillac CTS. The CTS is very quite thanks to triple door seals, sound deadening engine covers among other things, Business Week and others appreciated the optional Bose entertainment system and its easy-to-use controls. MotorTrend, Detroit News and others noted its precise manufacturing of exterior panels and interior construction with Caranddriver and Forbes (said interior was weakest component of prior model) noting that interior improvements may be the single biggest dramatic improvement in the CTS with its upscale and thoughtful interior, with top of the line materials, fit and finish. In particular the 6 speed transmission was noted by Caranddriver and Cars.com as being top notch and able to switch smoothly at low speeds and more quickly under hard acceleration. Only reviewer, Forbes, noted that rear seats are not comfortable for adults on trips longer then 20 miles. CNET was particularly impressed with the digital music and navigation options calling it the best they have tested. One cool feature about the automatic transmission is that it is programmed to downshift based on how hard you hit the brakes, such as before entering a turn.
