2008 Chevrolet Aveo Review Summary The 2008 Chevrolet Aveo has some changes from prior year, in particular the sedan has new styling and improved interior design but is still ranked at the bottom of this category with a 6 by Allcarguides.com. It is a low priced option for buyers seeking good, but not great fuel economy, with ample interior room but not very sporty nor with modern safety features. As caranddriver sated its “chief virtue is affordability and inexpensive operation.” As well as other competitors in its space, it is slightly top heavy design looks awkward but pays dividends in terms of providing headroom. The Aveo has a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine providing 103 horsepower and 107 torque. The Chevy Aveo comes with a standard five-speed manual transmission with an optional four-speed automatic. One neat features is the "hold" feature for 2nd-gear when driving on slippery surfaces. It comes in either a sedan or four-door hatchback called the Aveo5. The Aveo5 has two trims - Special Value and LS. Aveo sedans come in LS and LT trims. The LT costs a bit more than the standard which comes in at $12,800, so for $14,580 you get 15-inch aluminum wheels, six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with MP3 playback, power windows, power locks with keyless entry, and cruise control in the LS. The rock bottom price of $10,800 in the Aveo gets you a “hot” car meaning air conditioning is an option. Chevy states that mileage is 27 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway with the manual gearbox and 26/34 with the automatic but a number of reviewers noted that they got significantly less in road tests especially when equipped with a manual transmission. Unfortunately for the Aveo, the competition is steep with Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris all offering more features and better economy while Kian And Hyundai offer longer warranties. The Aveo is manufactured in Korea by Daew
2008 Chevrolet Aveo Review Handling Often subcompacts provide a wobbly ride but the Chevrolet Aveo has a respectable sense of feel for the road. Though not a lot of fun to drive when compared to the Honda Fit as described by nearly every review we read. The steering has a good feel and the suspension well tuned and the engine, which can be a bit loud, provides adequate power for most needs. The manual transmission’s gear ratios are too wide, causing it to be underpowered on highway grades thus a number of reviewers recommend the automatic transmission for a les sluggish performance.
2008 Chevrolet Aveo Review Safety Overall safety features are pretty skimpy and Braking distances are sub-standard as noted by caranddriver and others. Side airbags are standard on all styles. Antilock brakes are optional on LS and LT models, and include electronic brakeforce distribution for shorter stopping distances. While features such as traction and stability control are not available. In NHTSA crash tests, the Aveo scored a five-stars our of a possible five stars for front occupants in frontal impacts and four stars for occupants in side impacts
2008 Chevrolet Aveo Noteworthy Described by nearly all reviewers as functional there really is nothing exception about the Chevrolet Aveo. The downside is that it does not accelerate very quickly, has sub par safety features, just so-so mileage compares to its competitors but it does have very low sticker price
With new engines and more power for 2008, BMW's numeric nomenclature for six-cylinder 5 Series models has changed. But the model line hasn't really changed at all. There are two six-cylinder engines, a V8, and an ultra-high performance V10, manual and automatic transmissions...
