2008 Dodge Magnum Review Summary
The Dodge Magnum, introduced in 2005, has had modest changes since its launch but most reviewers say this is because it does what it set out to do very well. A very good alternative to traditional SUV, the 2008 Magnum has attractive styling – slanted roofline and chopped stance give it a unique silhouette, lots of power (especially in the V8 trim) and sufficient interior room to carry 6. Forbes said “Magnum is one of the most aggressively styled station wagons ever built.” But does anyone really need a wagon to 0-60 in the low five seconds, and the quarter in the high 13 seconds. It was even road tested by Motor Trend against an Mercedes AMG. Significant improvements to interior include soft-touch surfaces, more driver-oriented instrument panel. The Magnum comes in four trim levels all are rear wheel drive: base SE, SXT, V8-powered R/T and maximum-performance SRT8. Most reviewers commented that the R/T and SRT8 are worth the extra cost especially since the base model’s transmission is a 4 speed. The base Dodge Magnum SE comes with a 2.7-liter V6 engine delivering 190 horsepower and 190 torque. The SXT has a 3.5-liter V6 delivering 250 horses and 250 torque. The R/T is a more sporty and is equipped with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that delivers 340 hp and 390 torque. Finally, the SRT8 6.1-liter Hemi V8 delivers 425 hp and 420 torque. The Magnum SXT and R/T offers rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

2008 Dodge Magnum Review Handling
The SRT8 was called a “downright blast to drive, with tons of torque, a sport-tuned suspension and bigger brakes that allow you to maneuver quickly through tight corners.” by Edmunds. Overall, reviewers thought all models had sufficient power and cornered well. But the R/T and SRT8 excelled in power and handling.

2008 Dodge Magnum Review Safety
Standard features include four-wheel disc brakes, while antilock brakes, traction control, stability control and power-adjustable pedals are optional on the base SE and standard on all other Magnums. The SRT8 has full-length side curtain airbags, which are optional on the others. Self-sealing tires are available on all except the SRT8. The Magnum received five out of five rating for driver and front-passenger protection during frontal collisions, and four rating for front occupants and five rating for rear occupants during side crashes.

2008 Dodge Magnum Noteworthy
Reviewers were nearly unanimous that R/T provides a nice compromise between performance and economy. Distinctive exterior and agile, the Magnum SRT8 beats the high-performance European sport wagons as it is more functional and less costly while Magnum’s less expensive models, the SXT and R/T, compare well wagons such as the Volkswagen Passat and Saab 9-3 and 9-5 SportCombi. Fuel efficiency is acceptable but not overwhelming and the only area where the Magnum really does not compare well is in carrying 5 or more adults often or long distances when compared to Mazda CX-9 or GMC’s Acadia/Buick Enclave/Saturn Outlook. Visibility is compromised by the low roof, high dash, and thick roof pillars. Tr
