2008 Honda Civic Hybrid Overview The 2008 Honda Civic is available in coupe and sedan versions.  The DX, LX, and EX models share a 140-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with a standard five-speed manual transmission.  A five-speed automatic ($800) is optional.   The Honda Civic DX coupe ($14,810) and sedan ($15,010) are the base models.

The 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid is a highly rated Hybrid car with a number 2 ranking by Allcarguides.com. It can not compete against the Toyota Prius on mileage but if you plan to do more highway driving then stop and go driving then it is likely a better choice than the Prius There are few changes from the prior design as the Honda Civic had a major redesign in 2005. However the hybrid is not as competitive as the Prius – It is slower and less fuel efficient and use of cargo space is not as good. It also brakes better than the Prius. The Civic is offered as a sedan or coupe and each comes in 5 trims DX, LX, EX, EX-L and Si as well as the Hybrid sedan. Many reviewers describe the Honda Civic as setting the bar for small economy cars. It is stylish, reliable, has good fuel mileage, cheap and has a relatively sporty drivetrain and suspension. If you are willing to look at a non-hybrid then the sportier Si edition called Mugen, we are not sure why it has this strange name, is worth evaluating to se if it meets your needs.

Many reviewers noted the awkward configuration of the dashboard instrument panel. Not a lot of storage but plenty of room for passengers. In 2007 won JD Power most compact car initial quality. In the hybrid, the electric motor kicks in automatically when needed to boost acceleration and fuel economy. But it is described as somewhat pokey by some reviewers. CNET noted that it has a well-integrated navigation and voice command system. In the case of the Honda Civic hybrid, unlike the Prius the gas engine runs full time and is assisted by the electric engine when it needs more power.
