2008 Honda S2000 Review Summary
The 2008 Honda S2000, ranked 7.5 by ACG, is an affordable sports car in a class with competitors such as the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Nissan 350Z, Mazda RX-8, Pontiac Solstice, Hyundai Tiburon, Saturn Sky, and Mitsubishi Eclipse. The S2000 is widely regarded as a formidable competitor with its powerful, high revving 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine churning out 237 hp at 7,800 rpm, rear wheel drive, and remarkable on road balance at a reasonable price. Critics universally noted, however, that the 2008 Honda S2000 offers a suspension too stiff for daily driving, a cramped cabin, lack of amenities and an aging design. The Honda S2000 provides more punch than the MX-5 Miata, but class competitors such as the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, while not perfect, do offer stronger performance at a competitive price. Honda added a new performance trim for 2008, the CR (which stands for “Club Racer”). The CR is faster than the standard S2000 because it weighs a shade under 100 pounds less than the standard version, not because of a more powerful engine. The CR does not include air-conditioning and audio systems (both are optional) and does not offer the power-operated soft top in favor of a removable hardtop. The CR also sports a track-tuned suspension, a quicker steering ratio, performance tires, and more aerodynamic bodywork. Every S2000 includes a 237-horsepower 2.2-liter engine, six-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, limited-slip differential, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), rear defroster, engine immobilizer, HID headlamps, dual power mirrors, AM/FM stereo with CD, XM Satellite Radio, headrest-mounted speakers, leather bucket seats, cruise control, power windows, remote keyless entry and alloy wheels.

2008 Honda S2000 Noteworthy
The 2008 Honda S2000 has a class-leading six-speed manual transmission and its performance is considered among the best in its class with a 0-60 mph time of under six seconds. Astonishingly, peak power is delivered at almost 8,000 rpm giving the driver a surge of power at the expense of dealing with the high-pitched noise reverberating from the S2000’s engine.

The Honda S2000 has long been an impressive, fun-to-drive roadster for the price, but its appeal is
Nimble chassis, rev-happy engine, minimalist design, impressive amount of performance for the price.
