2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Review Summary
The 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse, ranked 7.8 by ACG, is an affordable sports car that makes up for its lack of performance and cramped backseat with its modern exterior design, well appointed interior, high powered optional stereo system, generous cargo space and lengthy warranty. Not much has changed since the 2007 Eclipse with the exception of a couple of additions to the standard equipment list that were formally offered as options. For example, those who opt for the premium stereo system now get satellite radio as part of the package. Additionally, the Mitsubishi Eclipse’s GT model now comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels which were formerly available only as an option. The 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse offers two different engine options – A 2.4-liter 162 horsepower four-cylinder and a 3.8-liter 263 horsepower V6. Critics unanimously recommended the larger 3.8-liter V6 over what they considered a significantly underpowered 2.4-liter 4 especially when factoring in the Eclipse’s healthy curb weight. That said, reviewers noted that while the larger engine offers significantly more power, drivers will have to sacrifice the fuel savings offered by the four cylinder option. The 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse comes in GS, GT and limited-edition SE and SE-V6 trim levels. The GS is powered by the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine while the GT upgrades to the 263 horsepower V6. The SE can get either engine. Also available is the Eclipse Spider which is a convertible option available in similar GS and GT trims. Even on the GS, standard equipment is generous with 17-inch alloy wheels, foglights, air-conditioning, a six-speaker MP3-capable CD stereo, split-folding rear seats, keyless entry, and power windows, locks and mirrors. The GT adds the V6, 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger vented disc brakes, traction control, an outside temperature display and compass. As stated earlier, the front-wheel-drive Eclipse is not nearly as nimble as other rear-wheel-drive vehicles in its class, but it offers an appealing mix of style and practicality that make it an attractive choice for the everyday driver.

2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Noteworthy
The 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse distinguishes itself from the competition with its best in class sound quality from its optional Rockford Fosgate stereo system, 15.7 cubic feet of rear cargo space (even before folding the backseats) and its extensive 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty far beyond all competitors in its class with the exception of the Hyundai Tiburon.
