2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid Review Summary
The Nissan Altima accelerates quicker than the Toyota Camry, Honda Civic and Toyota Prius hybrids yet still achieves a very attractive combined “sippy” fuel economy. At 35 city and 33 highway the Altima is significantly more stingy than its non-hyrbid version which only gets 22 in city. Most reviewers thinking the Altima hybrid is the best handling hybrid on the market. Because it qualifies as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle it gets the cleanest rating possible for fuel burning car. The hybrid has about 6 feet less cargo space than its non-hybrid version to accommodate battery. Plenty of interior space in the front while backseat’s are not as comfortable. A good amount of standard features but option packages get expensive fast. Though CNET particularly liked some of the tech features such as voice recognition system, Bluetooth hands-free calling interface and Boise stereo. Initially Nissan only offered the hybrid for sale in 8 states which are California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine and Vermont. It accelerates nicely and steering is relatively stiff and not bouncy, but do not confuse steering and handling for a true sports sedan. Safety: A good number of safety features come standard including antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat airbags and full length side curtain airbags. In National Highway Traffic Safety Admin tests it earned a top rating of 5 stars for driver and passengers.

2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid Noteworthy
The 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid model has almost no changes from the fully redesigned 2007 model and it offers a sporty alternative in the hybrid class earning it a number 2 ranking by Allcarguides.com. Though Nissan licensed Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system it actually performs better in the Nissan than the Toyota in one key category, acceleration. This is because almost Nissan Altima uses a Nissan 2.5 liter four cylinder engine (combining for 198 horspower or 11 more than the Camry hybrid) as well as Nissan’s highly reviewed and smooth continuously variable transmission which helps to maximize fuel efficiency. As a result of the Altima’s powertrain it performs better than the Toyota Camry hybrid. In fact, Business Week said “No matter how you cut it, Nissan’s Altima Hyrbid is a bargain right now.” The interior and exterior both get high marks from most reviewers though remark that there is limited space for rear seat passengers especially those taller than 6 feet.
