2008 Nissan Versa Review Summary
Introduced in 2007, the Nissan Versa 20008 model remains mostly unchanged and is ranked number 2 by Allcarguides.com. The Nissan Versa starts around $15,300 and comes as a four-door hatchback or sedan and both body styles come in base 1.8 S and more upscale 1.8 SL trim levels. Both the S and Sl come with standard six-speed manual transmission which is not always the norm in this category. The S is also offered with a regular four-speed automatic transmission ($13,250), while the SL automatic ($15,450) gets the more advanced and much more economical Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). CNET prefers the manual transmission for better fuel economy and a more enjoyable all-around drive. It has a spacious interior due to its tall roof which makes headroom and legroom more than acceptable for a 6-foot-plus passenger to sit comfortably in both the front or rear seats. As noted by Motherproof , Roadandtrack Money.com and others, the Versa’s interior is very spacious for its class and Money said “It's hard to figure out how the car you were just driving could be so small when it felt so big on the inside.” In fact, the Nissan Versa seems to offer more interior room than any of its true competitors as noted by Automotive.com and others. Btu some noted that the exterior is quirky looking due to its height. The interior cabin is very limited in terms of high-end and modern electric gadgets as noted by CNET. The Nissan Versa is economical with MPG at an impressive at 30 city and 34 .

2008 Nissan Versa Review Handling
In an effort to gain speed in accelerating the Versa’s engine will rev at a high rpm thus making the car noisy and awkward. The ride quality is quite good on the highway, but with a soft suspension the Versa can bounce around on rough road surfaces. Given the car’s height, the Versa feels awkward when cornering and does not corner as well as the competitors. Finally, tire grip could be better.

2008 Nissan Versa Review Safety
The 2008 Nissan Versa has front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and a tire-pressure monitor as standard features while antilock brakes with brake assist are optional though many reviewers seem to expect ABS as standard feature. It received a four-star out of five rating for driver and front-passenger protection in head-on collisions while it received a five star for side-impact safety form the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Another quirky but good feature are front small triangular windows but these help with visibility as noted by Motherproof.

2008 Nissan Versa Noteworthy
The Nissan Versa is slightly less nimble, meaning quick and handling is not as crisp, as some of the competitors such as Honda Fit and Scion xD. CNET noted that once in third gear the engine is past its zippy best. Money even said that it ‘isn’t particularly fun to drive.” Also of note, is its continuously variable transmission (CVT) that is able to provide better performance and fuel mileage than the four-speed automatics usually offered in this price range. Finally, the Nissan Versa offers the most interior room in its class which results in a open and feel to the cabin. Oddly, in the hatchback the split rear seat does not fold flat against the cargo floor, but lowering it does expose 50.4 cubic feet of space while the sedan offers 13.8-cubic-foot trunk.
