2008 Scion xB Overview
With all Scions, there is just one model but a million options. That's the Scion personalization theme. The xB with manual transmission is $15,650 and automatic $16,600. Standard equipment on the xB includes charcoal fabric interior, air conditioning, cruise control, information display, 160-watt Pioneer audio system with iPod and auxiliary connection, tilt steering wheel with audio controls, remote keyless entry, power side mirrors with turn signal indicators, power windows, and door locks, halogen headlamps, tinted glass, 16-inch steel wheels with wheelcovers.
2008 Scion xB Review Summary The front wheel drive Scion xB has been redesigned this year but is still a distinctive look in the affordable compact wagon category earning it a #10 ranking from Allcarguides.com. Though still unconventional it has more mainstream look, larger interior with more room, more powerful engine, though more expensive and less fuel efficient than prior version. It is no longer bargain basement price but most reviewers thought that the Scion provides a lot of value for still modest cost. Though it has gained size and interior comfort, the new Scion xB has a less distinctive and stylish exterior. It is nearly a foot longer and 3 inches wider than prior version. The Scion has a large number of custom options so only coming in on trim does not limit the Scion xB which can be “personalized” with a variety of options. The standard features include 16-inch steel wheels with a choice of three covers, air-conditioning, cruise control, full power accessories, a tilt steering wheel and a six-speaker Pioneer CD stereo. The Scion xB has a 2.4-liter inline-4 that produces 158 hp and 162 torque – These are significant improvements in power and speed from the earlier version of the Scion. It has a standard five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic optional. It can get from 0 to 60 in about an automatic-equipped xB hustled from z e bro to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds but fuel mileage is now a disappointing 22 city and 28 highway down from the low 30s in prior version of the Scion xB.
2008 Scion xB Review Handling The Scion’s high center of gravity causes it to roll when cornering and sway when crosswinds are present. Though the Scion handles well in city conditions the consensus option was that on curvy roads the Scion is not much fun to drive and is surpassed by many of its nimbler, smaller competition.
2008 Scion xB Review Safety Standard safety features in the Scion xB include antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, front seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
2008 Scion xB Noteworthy Most reviewers noted the very large cargo area in the Scion xB and with the rear seats folded down it has what is described as SUV-like 70 cubic feet of cargo area. Targeted to youth and audiophiles, the standard dedicated iPod jack allows one to control iPod playback through the head unit controls and the sound system comes with rear inputs to make adding aftermarket subwoofers and amplifiers easier What some found surprising was lack of blue tooth cell phone integration but most reviews said that it has a good array of tech options are now available, especially for its class, including 3 DVD players, navigation system. Most reviewers do not like the centrally located dashboard gauges as they can be hard to read. Some reviewers noted the smart use of interior space in the form of shelves and storage areas. Passengers in both front and rear may not find the seats very comfortable. A number of reviewers noted that the Scion has very tight fighting components and sound deadening materials to create a quit ride.
