2008 Scion xD Review Summary The 2008 Scion xD is a new model and replaces the xA as the lowest priced Scion. The Scion xD is a four-door hatchback with distinctive styling, peppy performance and an impressive list of standard features and personalization options and is ranked number 3 by Allcarguides.com. Its powerful 128-horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine offers quicker acceleration than most of its competitors including the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa as noted by a number of reviewers. But the Scion has less leg room and cargo room than these same competitors. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine generates 128 hp and 125 torque resulting in a zippy 0 to 60 in 8.4 seconds. Fuel economy is a very competitive 27 mpg city/33 mpg highway with the five-speed manual and 26/32 mpg with the four-speed automatic. It is available in only one trim but standard features are relatively plentiful for its class.
2008 Scion xD Review Handling Handling at low speeds makes the steering feel out of synch but at higher speeds it adjusts nicely. A bit heavier though smaller than the Honda Fit, the Scion xD has ammore substantial feel on the road. With options, including Toyota Racing Department (TRD) for souping up the car there are plenty of opportunities to make the Scion xD rather sporty. The sway bar is at the top of the list of a number of reviewers including CNET to reduce body roll when cornering.
2008 Scion xD Review Safety Standard safety features include antilock brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control, front seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and front active head restraints.
2008 Scion xD Noteworthy Some reviewers commented on the very distinctive and stocky front end that, to some, looks like a Rhino but this odd look appeals to many teens or early twenty year olds. Unlike other low end subcompacts, the Scion xD comes with an ipod port and more high end stereo. But not many standard accessories though it has a plethora of options. Overall as noted by BusinessWeek it is distinguished by the large number of accessories available from dealer or outside parties to customize the car. As noted by CNEt and others, the placement of the speedometer and tachometer are odd and difficult to use as the two needs move in opposite directions. As noted in safety below, the Scion xD comes loaded with many standard features. Rear passengers have good head room but front seats are described as upright
Nissan Quest 3.5 SL ($30,240). The 2008 Nissan Quest is offered in four trim levels: 3.5, 3.5 S, 3.5 SL, and 3.5 SE. All are the same length. All feature Nissan's superb 3.5-liter V6 engine, a five-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.
