The Rondo LX ($18,495) comes with air conditioning, remote keyless entry, cruise control, a 60/40 fold-flat rear seat, and power windows, locks and mirrors. The LX is also available in a base version without remote entry and cruise control ($17,495). The Rondo EX ($21,295) adds leather trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome grille, door handles and molding, fog lamps, heated mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, lights for the vanity mirrors, and a CD/MP3 six-speaker sound system.
2009 Kia Rondo Review Summary The 2009 Kia Rondo, ranked 8.0 by ACG, is the automobile epitome of function over form in the affordable wagon class. Don’t consider the Rondo if you’re looking to impress anyone going down the street with your vehicle’s looks or power, but if you want an extremely affordable and practical people mover, it’s probably the best bet. According to reviewers, despite the Rondo’s relatively boring exterior, the cabin is spacious and the cargo accommodations flexible. In the five seat version, the Rondo allows for 107.8 cubic feet of passenger volume and for an extra cost, a third row bench seat ups the passenger capacity to seven. Some reviewers, however, would like more driver seat adjustment for taller drivers. The Rondo provides 6.5 feet of cargo space with all three rows in place, but with the second and optional third row down, space increases to 74.4 cubic feet. Reviewers feel that the material quality of the interior is fairly high for the Rondo’s price tag. The 2009 edition of the Rondo receives a power increase for both of its available engines, with the 4-cylinder seeing a fuel economy increase as well. Satellite radio and roof rails now come standard, and a navigation system and iPod connector is new to the options list. The 2009 Rondo comes in two trim levels: the LX and EX, and both are available with either the standard in-line 4-cylinder engine or optional V6. The standard 4-cylinder produces 175 horsepower and 169 feet of torque, while the V6 creates 192 horsepower and 184 feet of torque. Reviewers generally feel the Rondo handles competently, though surprisingly most prefer the standard engine to the V6. Perhaps not so surprising is the fact that reviewers found the Rondo’s performance to be dull. Also, reviewers were disappointed by the fact that the Rondo only comes in traditional front-wheel drive even though most of its competitors offer an all-wheel drive system.
2009 Kia Rondo Review Handling Handling and performance is certainly not the selling point for the 2009 Kia Rondo, but the general consensus is that the Rondo handles fairly well. Reviewers are pleased with the Rondo’s power assisted rack and pinion steering and tight turning radius.
2009 Kia Rondo Review Safety The National Highway and Traffic Administration gave the 2009 Rondo a top safety rating of five stars for driver and passenger in frontal crash tests, a five-star rating for front seat passenger protection in side crashes, and four stars for rear seat passenger protection in those crashes. Electronic Stability Control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System are all standard on the Rondo.
2009 Kia Rondo Noteworthy The 2009 Kia Rondo outclasses its most direct competitor, the Mazda5 wagon, in terms of size and space availability by seating seven passengers. The base LX trim now features air conditioning as part of its standard equipment list. The 2008 Leather Package, which includes leather seating and heated front seats, is now standard on EX trims.
The Mitsubishi Lancer DE is the base model. Standard features are sparse. There is no air conditioning, although the heater does have micron filtration. Shift knob and tilt steering wheel are wrapped in urethane.
The 2008 Toyota RAV4 is a four-door, compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), available in three trim levels: base ($21,250), Sport ($22,825) and Limited ($23,505). For those prices you get front-wheel drive; a 2.4-liter, 166-horsepower inline-4; and a four-speed automatic...
