2010 Chevrolet Aveo Review Summary
The Chevy Aveo, ranked 13th by ACG in the Affordable Small Cars class, is a decent car with good fuel economy for a low sticker price. However, the stiff competition in today’s market leaves drivers wishing for more with the Aveo, and reviewers note that the Aveo is outclassed by its competitors. While there are two trim options, the sedan or the five-door hatchback, it is seriously lacking in the performance department, with harsh gear shifting, poor handling, and weak acceleration. The exterior style is modeled after Chevy’s more expensive cars, which gives it a slightly more sophisticated look, and while the interior space is well-designed and user friendly, the cheap, there is also significant use of hard plastic materials which are known to wear out quickly. The Chevy Aveo’s front seats have good headspace but lack sufficient legroom. For the small dimensions of the car, reviewers note that rear seating is relatively good. Cargo room is also spacious for its class, and the rear seats can be folded flat for additional cargo space. However, safety and reliability ratings raise some serious red flags for the Aveo. While visibility is good, there is a disappointing absence of standard safety measures. Additionally, the Aveo even lacks in optional safety features. There is simply no stability or traction control available. There are also no side curtain airbags available, either, although dual-stage frontal airbags and seat-mounted side-impact air bags come standard. Anti-lock brakes—which come standard with many of the Aveo’s competitors—are optional. JD Power and Associates gives the Aveo a dismissive 4.0 out of 10 for predicted reliability. Unfortunately, the 2010 Chevy Aveo leaves little in the way of safety features or reliability for consumers.

2010 Chevrolet Aveo Review Handling
The Aveo’s handling unfortunately, leaves much to be desired. The1.6-liter four-cylinder engine generates only 103-horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque; it is simply not very powerful and the resulting weak acceleration frustrates many drivers. Steering and braking are adequate for daily, local driving, though.

2010 Chevrolet Aveo Review Safety
The 2010 Chevy Aveo did alright in government crash testing, but not very well in insurance industry testing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Aveo a 5 out of 5 stars for driver protection and 4 out of 5 star for passenger protection in front-impact crashes; 4 out of 5 for driver protection in a side-impact crash, but only 3 of 5 star for passenger protection in a side-impact crash. The Hatchback model faired a bit better than the base model, with a 5 out of 5 star rating for front-impact crashes and 4 out of 5 start rating for side-impact crashes. Both models of the Aveo received a 4-star rollover rating. The insurance industry gave the Chevy a rating of ''acceptable'' for front-impact crashes, but a very troubling ''marginal'' rating for side-impact and rear-impact crashes.

2010 Chevrolet Aveo Noteworthy
There isn’t much that is noteworthy about the 2010 Chevy Aveo, other than it is very inexpensive to buy and maintain. Safety concerns and the lack of available safety options should be carefully considered.
